PowerUp Nutrition!

Food is Fuel!

Food is fuel for our bodies and brains and teaching kids the importance of food balance is a key factor in proper growth and development. The USDA recommends that children two years and older have an eating pattern that consists of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, a variety of protein foods, and oils.

PowerUp Fitness offers a variety of unique fitness programs! PowerUp programs are designed to provide children with the opportunity to become more active, physically and mentally. Learn more about us and our mission to PowerUp children's development with fitness and fun in our About Section!

The CDC states “Eating a healthy breakfast is associated with improved cognitive function (especially memory), reduced absenteeism, and improved mood.” So it is very important we make time for breakfast so our kids can be fueled and ready for the day.

PowerUp has a few fun games that get kids thinking about the types, flavors, and characteristics of food. Try these activities and you may inspire future Top Chefs!

Food Frenzy

Participants will learn to personify a variety of foods using movement! Say a food and let the kids try to think of a movement that represents that food. For example, Bacon - Lie on the Floor and stomp your feet like bacon frying in a pan or Ice Cream – “Melt” to the floor from a standing position. Switch it up and put the focus on certain food groups.

Fruit and Veggie Relay Race

Students are divided into relay teams. The first team member runs to a stopping point, shouts out a fruit or vegetable that starts with the letter A, then runs back to their team, and gets at the end of the line. The next team member runs to the stopping point and shouts out a fruit or vegetable that begins with the letter B, continue through team members from A to Z. The first team to Z wins!
